Lawn mowing price calculator
Lawn mowing is usually quoted per cut, but the number underneath is time: how long the lawn takes with your mower, plus trimming and the drive. Set the hourly rate your business needs and the calculator turns any lot size into a per-visit and monthly price.

Price logic
- Time = Lawn acres × minutes per acre (by mower) + trim + drive
- Price per cut = max(Minimum, Time × hourly rate + fuel), rounded up to $5
Why price by time, not by lot size alone
Two quarter-acre lawns can take very different time: one is an open rectangle, the other has beds, slopes, a fence line and a dog run to trim. Lot size gets you a first quote; your own stopwatch on the first visit tells you whether to keep it.
Mower width changes everything. A 21-inch push mower is fine for small lots but slow on anything bigger, which is why growing lawn businesses move to walk-behinds and zero-turns once the route fills up.
Route density is the hidden profit lever
Ten minutes of driving between lawns is unpaid time. Clustering customers on the same streets — through door hangers and neighbor referrals — can add one or two extra lawns to the day without working longer. The calculator's “lawns per day” line shows how much drive time costs you.
Seasonal and contract pricing
Many lawn businesses sell a monthly or seasonal contract instead of per-cut billing. Customers get a predictable bill and you get predictable revenue, plus a natural place to bundle leaf cleanup, aeration and mulch.
Frequently asked questions
How do I figure out how much to charge for mowing a lawn?
Estimate how long the lawn takes with your mower, add trimming, edging and drive time, then multiply by the hourly rate your business needs and add fuel. Round up and apply a minimum charge.
How long does it take to mow an acre?
It depends on the mower and obstacles. A small push mower can take a couple of hours per acre, while a wide zero-turn on open ground can do it in well under an hour. Time your own equipment.
Should I charge per cut or monthly?
Per cut is simple for new customers; monthly or seasonal contracts give steadier income and make it easier to upsell other services.
