Stripe US standard pricing, checked 2026-10. Some payment methods and negotiated plans are priced differently.

Stripe US standard pricing (checked Oct 2026)

  • Rate = 2.9% + 0.5% (manual entry) + 1.5% (international card) + 1% (currency conversion)
  • Fee = Amount × Rate + $0.30
  • Net = Amount − Fee
  • Amount to charge = (Target net + $0.30) ÷ (1 − Rate)

Worked example: a SaaS subscription and a one-off sale

A $29/month software plan paid with a US card costs $0.84 + $0.30 = $1.14, so Stripe keeps 3.9% of that small charge. A $500 coaching package costs $14.50 + $0.30 = $14.80, about 3%.

The fixed 30¢ is why low-priced products feel Stripe's fees most. If a customer in the UK pays the $500 package with a GBP card that must be converted, the rate becomes 2.9% + 1.5% + 1% = 5.4%, or $27.30 in fees.

Surcharges that catch people out

  • Manual entry (+0.5%) — typing a card number into the Dashboard yourself, for example for a phone order.
  • International cards (+1.5%) — charged on cards Stripe classes as international for your account.
  • Currency conversion (+1%) — when the charge currency differs from your payout currency.
  • Disputes — a chargeback carries its own fee, separate from processing.

Stripe does not return the original processing fee when you refund a card payment, so refunds cost you the fee you already paid.

Reverse mode

To receive $500 after fees on a domestic card: (500 + 0.30) ÷ (1 − 0.029) = $515.25. Use it to set a price floor for services quoted in exact numbers, or to compare against the PayPal and Square calculators before you pick a processor.
